Local Missions

Trinity Missions Team

Serving God...in our congregation, our community, and our world.  The Trinity Missions Team organizes local and global outreach projects, sponsoring one project each month. Trinity members serve food at The Gathering Place, collect shoes for orphans, collect quarters for the Friendship Home, volunteer at  Epworth Village, sponsor children in a Nigerian orphanage, and travel to tornado-ravaged towns in the Midwest  This vibrant team is always looking for new ways to serve and share God's love.  Click on the links below to find out more about the organizations the Mission Team serves.

Backpack Program  (Click HERE to Set Up for Sunday or deliver on Thursday)

Trinity partners with the Food Bank of Lincoln and Lincoln Public Schools Backpack Program to provide food through the weekend for children and families in need at Hill Elementary School.  Many of these children rely on the school’s breakfast and lunches for their most nutritious meals of the day. Currently we sponsor 26 backpacks for families unable to meet the needs of their children themselves. The Backpack Program rotates six individual menus that include fresh fruit weekly and a milk voucher monthly.

The Backpack Program offers Trinity members and friends a wonderful opportunity for hands-on mission work. Volunteers unload the food from the Food Bank delivery truck every six weeks; prepare the food for packing each Sunday morning and help others pack the bags; deliver the totes of bags to Hill Elementary School any time between Monday morning at 9 am and Thursday at 4 pm; and pack the fruit and vouchers into each child’s back pack each Friday at Hill Elementary from 2 to 2:30 pm.

Trinity members directly support 26 children with food for the weekend at a cost of $200 per child for the school year.   If you'd like to contribute, please make checks to Trinity UMC and note BackPack in the memo line. If you'd like to volunteer, stop by the Backpack tables in Spirit Hall between worship services each Sunday during the school year.

Chidren's Issues

Are you concerned about the issues that affect the lives of children in our state?  Would you like to stay informed about legislative actions that may impact our children?  The Children's Issues Team stays up-to-date on key issues before the legislature and offers the congregation opportunities to support legislative bills.

Prayer Team

The Trinity prayer team takes time every day to focus their prayers on specific
individuals in need. To join the prayer team or be added to the prayer list, contact the church office at 402-435-2946.

Since 2009 Trinity has hosted a summer community event for families in the Village Gardens and surrounding neighborhoods. Face painters, balloon artists, and clowns; a bounce house; carnival games; kids activities sponsored by agencies that serve families and children; an antique car photo booth; lots of fun music; free food--all combine to offer the neighborhood a rockin' good time!  Watch for Rock the Village each year in August.
